Datavail Study Finds 68% of Enterprises Lowered Database Administration Costs by Outsourcing
Research conducted by independent research firm uncovers several key business and technology benefits to outsourcing database management
Broomfield, Colo. — March 17, 2014— Datavail squashed questions about the financial benefit of outsourcing today by revealing results of a study that confirmed that 68 percent of organizations who outsourced all or part of their database management lowered their administration costs. The findings are based on Datavail-commissioned research conducted by Forrester Consulting, a global research and advisory firm.
“The results of this study confirmed that organizations are saving money by outsourcing database management,” said Noel Yuhanna, principal analyst, Forrester Research, Inc., in a video about the research findings. “Outsourcing lowers the cost of database administration, and saves money on the hardware and software businesses must purchase if they don’t tune their databases. It also improves quality of service as it allows DBAs to focus on the business value rather than troubleshooting databases, environments and applications.”

“Value is truly the underpinning benefit of outsourcing,” said Mark Perlstein, CEO, Datavail. “On average, Datavail saves clients 25 to 60 percent on their database administration costs while providing 24/7 support, improving quality, and adding flexibility. This enables enterprises to best utilize their internal assets and allows their DBAs to stay focused on supporting more strategic initiatives and business goals.”
In addition to lowering DBA costs, this study found that outsourcing database management offers several key business and technology benefits, including:
- Improved quality of database administration. According to 56 percent of respondents, outsourcing database administration improves service level agreements and quality of service.
- Improved focus on business issues. Fifty percent of surveyed respondents reported that outsourcing database administration helps focus on business issues.
- Helps complement existing staff. Outsourcing helps complement existing staff by offloading routine database administration tasks or providing support outside normal business hours.
“Adopting a managed services approach to database administration, and augmenting our on-staff DBA team, improved our DBA retention as well as the quality of life of our DBAs. We’re able to focus our on-staff DBAs to engage earlier on business processes and business issues, while Datavail handles many of our day-to-day operational issues. The result has been higher employee satisfaction and retention and greater business value,” said the director of database administration at a major financial services company, one of Datavail’s clients.
